Hunter and Steadman

I have been a fan of illustrator Ralph Steadman since I was a kid. I remember thieving a poster from my sisters room that had a sneezing planet on it promoting one of his books “The Big I Am”. For some reason, after that I just kept buying anything his scribbles were on. Back home I have a collection of books, posters, wine bottles and movies featuring his creations. I even saw some beer packaging at the store the other day that had his designs all over them…. which I will buy, drink and display.

As a person, he is no less amazing a character. Being a best friend to no other than Hunter S Thompson no less (R.I.P.), the two of them would often spend time causing trouble and scaring the innocent people around them, all the while seeing who could get the other arrested first. I’ve spent hours enjoying stories about these two icons, imagining the chaos and letting them affect my life as a creative kid to an adult trying to keep it all together. Often in my life I’ve found myself in my own crazy predicaments and just letting the dice roll to see where I’d land… and I always did land, and I always did survive and move on. Hunter helped me see the chaos and how to laugh at madness, and Steadman helped me paint the lines in my art and in my life, letting the drips fall where they may and work with it.

I’ve never met Ralph Steadman, nor do I ever think I will. All I have are stories I’ve read about him and Hunter, books he’s written himself or others have written… and now a documentary has been released! Johnny Depp is our guide, leading us into the “mind grapes” of Ralph Steadman. A fan himself of Ralph Steadman and Hunter S Thompson, he even narrated the Thompson documentary “Gonzo”. So I am super excited to see this documentary and get a glimpse into Ralph’s world. If you are an art fan than I urge you to watch the movie and spread the word.

ComiCon 2012 hit San Diego like a nerdy fist of justice. Everyone came out in full force to support their favourit comic, video game, movie, toys etc etc. It was great to see and be part of such a fun and positive crowd.

Here’s a sample of what you missed if you weren’t able to attend.

Here’s a fan-made short film for Nightwing that was inspired by Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight Rises. The movie was made for a few hundred bucks by Jeremy Le and Danny Shepherd.
Here’s what they posted on YouTube:

In honor of The Dark Knight Rises coming out, me and Jeremy ” Jimmy” Le decided to make a short film based on one of my personal favorite DC/ Batman characters; Batmans old sidekick, “Nightwing”. We were really inspired by Christopher Nolans world as well as the amazing game “Batman Arkham City”, so hopefully that’ll show through. We had a lot of fun making it even though we only had a few hundred bucks as a budget and not a whole lot of time to put it together! We would love to revisit it again someday!Let us know what you think and please rate, comment, and subscribe!! :]]Nightwing/ Dick Grayson: Danny ShepherdOracle/ Barbara Gordon: Talia MartinezRed Hood/ Jason Todd: Bilal YoungProduced by Jeremy Le & Danny ShepherdAssociate producer: TJ BozarthCinematography, Costume design, sound, and score by Jeremy LeWritten, edited by Danny ShepherdMotorcycle Stunts: Ezra Wong
